When I first elected to be sober, I felt a ton of anxiety around social situations, events, and activities. I’d grown up a shy, highly-sensitive girl in the Midwest. Most of my more outgoing young-adult social experiences were accented with alcohol.
Drinking gave me the liquid courage I needed to be a more outwardly expressed version of myself…or so I thought. What I know now is that I was using alcohol to dilute myself so that I’d “fit in” with the other kids.
At 31, when I decided to quit drinking altogether, I had to re-learn many of the social skills I’d neglected to practice as a teen. As a result, I’ve created an amazing toolkit of resources and tips to help guide you on your own journey to navigate social situations as an alcohol-free woman.
